In the Swabian village of Matringen, everyone knows Uwe, the scrap metal handyman, outsider and drinker, but no one believes a word he says. Not even when Uwe is convinced that he has witnessed the murder of local beauty queen Susi Berger. Left alone in his suspicions, Uwe investigates on his own and delves deeper and deeper into the dark truths buried beneath the idyllic small-town idyll of Matringen.
